On Wednesday 10th May, Alan Matthews, Vice-Chairman of the Hastings BID was delighted to welcome local businesses, the BID Board, Council staff, key figures from Hastings Police and the new Civic Society and Mayor Judy Rogers to the launch of the Hastings Business Improvement District.

After an impressive 72% vote from local businesses in favour of the BID in November, the newly formed Love Hastings Ltd team has started to work across the BID area to improve safety, appearance, events and marketing in the town centre. The projects will be funded by businesses contributing a compulsory annual levy across the five years.

The launch, which took place at the White Rock Theatre, offered businesses the opportunity to find out more about key action plans, including the introduction of a new on-street Business Warden, installation of hanging baskets, extension of the Christmas lights and the development of social media pages and a Love Hastings website, featuring all levy payers.

Rob Woods, Interim BID Manager, said “I would like to thank everyone who attended the launch last Wednesday. It was great to welcome and meet local business owners and receive such a positive reception. I would particularly like to thank Mayor, Judy Rogers, for officially launching the BID and Lorna Strawson, Theatre Director, for kindly loaning the use of the White Rock Theatre. We are looking forward to developing relationships with local businesses and working alongside them to actively promote and improve the town centre for workers, local residents and tourists.”
